Labour Market

Labour Market Statistics

There is a wide range of labour market information available covering topics such as employment, unemployment, skills and earnings. This section aims to bring together these sources of information to build a picture of the labour market within Staffordshire communities.

Claimant Count

One of the key labour market statistics available at lower geographies is the claimant count. This indicator records the number of people claiming jobseekers allowance. This is not an official measure of unemployment, but is the only indicative statistic available for areas smaller then local authorities.

Follow the links below to access statistics on the claimant count in interactive tables and maps. All data is available on a monthly basis from October 2004.

Percentage of the working age population claiming jobseeker's allowance

Percentage of young people (aged 18-24) claiming jobseeker's allowance

Percentage of the adult population (aged 25-64) claiming jobseeker's allowance

These statistics are updated monthly following the publication of the latest claimant count unemployment statistics.

Jobcentre vacancies

Follow the links below to access statistics on the number of jobcentre notified vacancies in Staffordshire. All data is available on a monthly basis from April 2004.

Annual Population Survey

The Annual Population Survey (APS) is a combined survey of households in Great Britain. Its purpose is to provide information on key social and socioeconomic variables between the 10-yearly censuses, with particular emphasis on providing information relating to sub-regional (local authority) areas. Due to sample size limitations, APS data is not available below local authority level i.e. data is not available for wards and super output areas.

Follow the links below to access employment, self employment, unemployment, economic activity and occupation structure statistics. These datasets are available annually and are updated each year in June.
